What does “Powered by NAVTEQ Traffic” mean?
”Powered by NAVTEQ Traffic” refers to the fact that NAVTEQ Traffic is the traffic data aggregator for the XM NavTraffic service.
Where does NAVTEQ Traffic get the traffic information?
NAVTEQ Traffic utilizes all available data from departments of transportation, police and emergency services, government and private traffic sensors, cameras and airborne reports.
What is the delay in reporting traffic information?
Accident reporting relies on human interaction for details such as location and severity as well as verification of reported incidents. The time span from when an accident occurs to when it is displayed on the navigation system will vary by time of the occurrence as well as location. Traffic icons may also remain on the navigation display for a period after the accident has cleared.
Why is the traffic flow information limited for my city location?
Flow data is only available where road speed sensors exist (varies city-by-city). This information is gathered from both state government agencies as well as from private companies. As the technology involved with traffic monitoring improves, so will the availability and accuracy of the data.
How is flow data represented on roads with multiple lanes?
Flow data represents an average of the dynamic traffic conditions along multi-lane roads.
What navigation systems will be compatible with the XM NavTraffic service?
The XM NavTraffic service has been designed as an industry standard solution for multiple navigation systems, and will support the digital map databases from NAVTEQ or TeleAtlas/GDT.
Why does my navigation system not display all of the traffic data as shown available on the market coverage maps?
To display the XM NavTraffic service, a navigation system requires a map database from NAVTEQ or TeleAtlas. Specific coding relating to the display of the traffic data is contained in the map database and is updated with the release of new map database updates. Therefore, if your map database is out of date, you may not be able to see all of the available traffic data available as part of the XM NavTraffic service. Contact your car dealer for information on map database upgrades or for aftermarket systems, contact NAVTEQ or TeleAtlas.
What will I see with XM NavTraffic?
Roadways for which traffic speed information is available are shown by color-coding to indicate directional traffic flow speed. Accidents, road construction or other incidents affecting traffic are displayed on the navigation map with an icon at the location of the incident. Information relating to a traffic incident is also available including the precise location, lanes affected, and the predicted duration.
